I thought I should wait at least a week before collecting my thoughts regarding this novella.
This also happens to be my second book review, and I am still finding my style.
Plot
Murderbot is a sentient "security-for-hire" bot that is responsible for providing security during planetary expeditions. The bot's normally mundane job takes a sharp turn when the bot is required to protect a group of scientists from an unknown threat
Review
Why did I pick this book ?
This is book 5 in the Murderbot Diaries and it won the Hugo award last year (2021). One of my goals this year is to read as many Hugo award winning books as I can. What better place to start than at the beginning - Book 1 - All Systems Red
Thoughts
This was a refreshing quick read, told from the first person perspective. There are many easily recognizable sci fi elements in this story - drones, spacecrafts, AI, interplanetary strife. The author has takes all these elements and woven an engaging story. The book on the whole is not derivative.
The protagonist's self deprecating humor is at times humorous. This book is a quick read, yet there was enough attention given to world building and key character development
I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
